This week the students started a new project using Thinglink.com. This project is to create a "Poster Like" image of 10 Spanish vocabulary words from their upcoming unit. This will help student learn their words using images as well as sound. The students will link the images to a url using Google Translate. While in Thinglink students can use various icons or "tags" to have a user hoover over to learn the word or to hear the word using a link to Google Translate.

This week we only met once for class.
6th grade Worked on their websites: There are websites about MEMES, dolphins, Cats, Art, Mario, and dogs. I will post some links later so you can view their sites. 7th grade The Purple Room 7th graders were given back their links to work on it to make sure all parts of their websites worked. Next, students tried to unlock the locks to one of their class mate's Digital Breakout. 8th Grade This week, the Digital Breakouts were due and students put finishing touches. On Monday, we will try to "Break out" a few of their classmates and start a new project. This week the 7th graders completed their Digital Break out. Some students shared their projects with their classmates. These breakouts are so clever and creative.
8th Graders will continue to work on their projects. The Sixth Graders are continuing to work on the websites. These should be turned in by 2/23/2018. This week, the 7th and 8th grade students have worked really hard on making finishing touches on their Digital Breakouts. It has been a week of finding out the rooms/jails each group has decided to have their classmates to guess clues to "Break Out " of places. Some of the places included "Freeing Kittens", Helping Yoshi and others to decipher clues to find the answers to the digital locks. Next week, Computer Lab class meets one day for class, which is Monday, 2/12/18. This will be the last in day class to work on this project. It is due by 2/23/19. Others who are finished can start trying to solve their classmates Digital Break Outs.
6th graders The sixth grade students continued to work on their websites in Weebly or Wix. 7th - 8th Grade
This week the students are continuing to work on their Digital Breakouts and have started to form their Google Sites and developing their locks using Google Forms. 6th Grade Students continued building their websites using Weebly. Some students are using Wix as they like the added features in Wix. However, if student desire to build a website for their History Day project, the students must use Weebly. 7th and 8th Grade
This week, the students completed their digital jigsaw puzzles and worked each other puzzles. Also we started our new project, a Digital Breakout. Exactly, what is a digital break out. This critical thinking project is based on the "Escape Room" entertainment, except students use Computer Technology applications. First, they will create Google Sites, and then embed a Google Form that has a place to answer any clues asked on the Google site. Students will used 3 to 4 character clues to "Unlock" digital locks on the Google Form. Students will use other Google apps and websites used in class. Also, it is important to add, Google Sites will need the students to login using their Google accounts. 6th Grade Students also completed their work on the Puerto Rico Jigsaw puzzle projects. Also students started a new website, building a website using Weebly. We started creating the Home Page today with a few elements, adding images, texts and titles. Understanding the parts of a website, i.e. header, heading and body. The Purple Room students continued to work on their puzzles about Puerto Rico. I must say the students really captured the historical events, places and the culture of the Puerto Rican people in their Google Drawings. Next adding an awe inspiring quote from Martin Luther King Jr. to the drawings, reflected students creativity and sensitivity. Also students were required to add a positive message to the Puerto Rican people as a message of Hope. After creating their Drawings, the students uploaded their Drawings into Jigsaw Planet,
In this assignment, students were able to learn more about the country of Puerto Rico as part of our service day project. Also, learning another Google Application i.e. Google Drawings, learning how to save a file as a JPEG., how to download a file, and how to upload a file to from one program to another program. . I will share some on the drawings in the Middle School building i.e. hallway. Today, was Service Day and class time for Computer Lab was shorten to allow time to do a variety of activities surrounding Martin Luther King, Jr and Puerto Rico. The activity in the Computer Lab was to use Google Drawings to create a jpeg file (image of their colorful "puzzle" and then upload it to a website called JigSawPuzzlePlanet. Students were to use a variety of images of Puerto Rico's famous historical places, people, and its motto. Next students were to use a positive statement to encourage the people of Puerto Rico and an Inspirational Quote from Martin Luther King, Jr to this Drawing. After completing this puzzle, students will work each other's puzzles at our next class meeting. .
7th and 8th Graders in the Purple Room completed their work on the first part of learning Google Sheets. This week the students continued to practice using the IF functions via a series of scenarios. They completed the Coffee Shop inventory project. Also, they started a Pancake Recipe project, where the students practiced, the SUM function and use the IF function to determine how much measurement of each ingredients to use for various number of servings: 1, 4, and 12.
6th Graders worked on a soccer team project where they had to find the AVERAGE, MEAN, MEDIAN, MODE and RANGE functions. When we return: we will be learning about webpage design and Google Forms (7th & 8th Graders). The Purple Roomers continue to work on their Google Sheets projects. This week we continued to work on the Coffee Shop inventory. In this project, the students entered the data, and had to determine the amount order if the average amount sold is greater than the Inventory on hand. Next students had to determine the quantity to recorder and calculate the cost and total cost of the reorder. This week we practiced using the IF function, SUM . Students were introduced to the SUM function and will review all of these next week. As well as learn a new function called COUNTIF.
